About Jim

Hello. I’m Jim Lane, owner of Juniper Design Woodworking. Since 1975, I have built custom furniture to the specifications of my customers.

I began in a small two-car garage in Austin, Texas. In 1984, my family moved to the Dallas area where I honed my craftsmanship building pipe organs for Schudi Organ Company and Sipe Organ Company. After organ construction, we loaded the organ pieces to fill a 53-foot trailer, followed by reassembly in churches and universities across the U.S.

I also made furniture to be installed on private jets manufactured by Gulfstream Aerospace, built custom art displays for museums and was kept busy by antique collector, Walter Rueben, building book and map cases.

Today, I repair and upgrade pipe organs, and work in my shop building custom furniture, tables for camper trailers, and book binding tools. I learned everything I know about bookbinding tools from Catherine Burkhard, a bookbinder and calligrapher with a private practice based in her Books ‘n Letters Studio in Dallas, Texas.

As I engage in this new chapter of my work, I hope that you are a part of it.
