The Grand Portage

I had been wanting to build a trail bridge for as long as I’ve been a backpacker. In January 2016, Larry, aka “The Trail Whisperer”, asked me to help him solve a problem. The lake was up and that required a change in the route for the oldest cross-country trail run in Texas.

Along the new route there was a narrow ravine that went beyond challenging to dangerous. Larry asked me to build a “portage” over the ravine. May wish had come true.

Over the course of two weekends, may new friend Clay and I built a 16’ long crossing that Larry dubbed “The Grand Portage”.

Portage completed!
